The Ghana High Commission in Pretoria, together with other African Diplomatic Missions in South Africa, joined the SABC and Radio 2000 in its inaugural Africa Day Celebrations on 25th May, 2017. Africa Day commemorates the day when the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), the precursor to the African Union (AU) was formed in 1963, and promotes reflections on how far we have come as a continent, and how much farther we can develop through strategic cooperation. The celebration was held at the SABC Head Office in Auckland Park, Johannesburg, and took the form of an African exhibition of diverse cultures and an exposé of Africa’s business potential. The Ghana High Commission had the opportunity to showcase Ghana’s identity through the display of Ghanaian culture, cuisine, alcoholic beverages, cocoa products, unique fashion and amazing history. The Ghana stand was indeed proud to be one of the key centres of attraction at the event, and welcomed a lot of people to the sights and sounds of Ghana. By honouring and celebrating this day, future generation of Africans can continue to lift the mantle of African Unity high up.
