The Body Builders had participated in the Arnold Classic Body Builders Championship at Sandton City Convention Center in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 5th to 7th May, 2017, and had won two gold medals, one silver medal, and one bronze medal. Over all, they ranked fourth at the event, which was an improvement on last year’s win.
Explaining their Mission to South Africa, Mr. Victor Baiden, a representative of the Association noted that Body Building is a sport, recognized by the Ghana National Sports Authority, but had lost its popularity over the years. He informed that the team intends to continue participating in the competition held annually in South Africa, and appealed to the High Commission to support the team’s effort in promoting the sport in Ghana.
The Ag. High Commissioner, Mrs. Florence Akonor, congratulated the Association on their success at the Championship, and recalled the early 1990’s when the sport was very popular, with National Championships organized at the campus of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology in Kumasi, and televised nationwide. She pledged the High Commission’s logistical support to the Association each time they were in South Africa to participate in the Championship.
Ghana is once again making strides, and we look forward to future achievements in the sport.
