With deep regret, the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria wishes to announce the passing away to eternal glory of Ghana's Honorary Consul to Lesotho, Dr. Frank Baffoe, on Tuesday, 13th December, 2016, in Lesotho, at Jesse Hospital in Maputsoe, Leribe District. He was eighty-one (81) years old.
The High Commission, represented by the Ag. High Commissioner, Mrs. Sena Siaw-Boateng, visited Lesotho on Wednesday, 14th December, 2016, to commiserate with the widow, Mrs. Emelia Baffoe, and members of the Ghanaian Community in Lesotho.
Dr. Baffoe obtained an M.A (Econ) from the University of Munich, Germany, and a Ph.D in Business Administration from the Knightsbridge University, London. He started his professional career at the IFO Institute of Economic Research, Africa Studies Centre, Munich, from 1970 -1972, and became a Senior Lecturer, Department of Economics, at the Makerere University in Uganda from 1973-1975, and later a Senior Lecturer at the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland (UBLS), University of Swaziland, and the National University of Lesotho between the years 1975 and 1985.
He left Academia in 1985 to become an Entrepreneur and established five family legally incorporated private companies and had been the Chairman and Chief Executive. He was also Chairman and Shareholder of BR Mining Africa, incorporated in Ghana in 2012, and was a Facilitator of Finance and Technology for African Governments under the Public Private Partnership Model.
Dr. Baffoe served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Lesotho, Maluti Mountain Brewery, Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation and the Lesotho Land and Housing Development Corporation. He also served as Advisor to several Ministries of various governments of Lesotho in the areas of Trade and Industry, Finance, Agriculture and Rural Development.
He was also a member of the African Association of Public Administration and Management, the Rainbow Toastmasters Club of Maseru, Member and Chairman of Government of Lesotho Mine Negotiation Team (1998-2005), Member and Charter Member of Rotary Club of Maloti – Maseru, District Governor of Rotary International 2010 – 2011, and until his demiseRotary District 9370 Area Coordinator.
He published several research papers, spoke and wrote German fluently, and had a working knowledge of French.
Dr. Baffoe was above all, an illustrious son of Ghana who served the Ghanaian Community in Lesotho with passion and patriotism. He will be fondly remembered by us all in this capacity. He left behind eight (8) children and a wife, Mrs. Emelia Baffoe.
A burial and funeral service will be held on Wednesday, 21st December, 2016, in Lesotho. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
